The Milford Columbus Committee

A Message from the Honorable Mayor James Richetelli

“Being the Mayor of the City of Milford continues to be a very rewarding and gratifying vocation for me and I consider myself to be very fortunate to represent this ‘small city with a big heart’ to coin a common phrase which we have adopted as our motto.”

“Nothing exemplifies this more than the efforts of the Milford Columbus Committee - a nonprofit organization that works selflessly to provide opportunity to our youth in way of offering assistance through fund-raising.  If you have been around town even for only for a short while, I am sure that you know a member or two. They continue to devote their time in such a positive way for our community.  And they have fun doing it.  If you have ever been to one of their annual Dinners I am sure you will agree!”

“I actually have the honor of personally knowing with and working with the membership since it began, and I would like to say that they have been an example of community -minded generosity since 1991.  An early example of the Committee’s efforts is the placement of a bust of Christopher Columbus on the green outside our city municipal Complex at Parsons, in 1992.  A well-known Milford landmark that statue will be here to proclaim their presence and good works far into the future.”

“I am also proud to say that, in 2003, I had the great honor of being selected by the Committee as the Honoree of the Year, which certainly places me in the company of a great group of individuals. “

“At the head of the Milford Columbus Committee, the President, one of the Founders,  and the main driving force of the Committee, is Sam Bergami, Jr.  As with all successful men of his stature and responsibility, (Sam also runs several manufacturing companies which employs 100’s and continues to grow in size and worldwide recognition) Sam not only heads up the Milford Columbus Committee but serves in many capacities, and has done so consistently over the years as part of other Milford organizations and clubs, all with the same focus – our community!  My personal thanks to Sam.”

“My very best wishes and sincere gratitude to the Columbus Committee whose efforts continue to enhance our precious community of Milford.”

Kind regards,

s/ James Richetelli, Jr.

Mayor, City of Milford
